Fuel Bowl Strainer Cable
I have a 66 C172G with a new fuel bowl strainer assembly and new fuel bowl strainer cable. Unless you are Superman you can’t pull the handle hard enough to dump fuel. Can I move the cable to the inside the engine compartment similar to what’s on newer 172’s. I’m hoping that this would have less bends in the cable and then less resistance. Is there a bulletin, AD or can I just move it and call it a minor alteration. Thanks

Sege, I personally would consider that a minor too, before you go to thru the trouble of doing that though I would disconnect it from the strainer and make sure it's the cable and not the valve on the strainer. Carl

Thanks, I’ll double check that before we go to the bother of moving the cable.
And please have your maintenance provider or overseer double check and monitor your work. This is not exactly preventative maintenance. Thanks, Carl

Sege, my mechanic did that exact modification on my 1965 C-182H. It was a minor alteration. The cable leading to the instrument panel was too difficult to move. We used new/ surplus hardware from a C-152 and mounted it next to the oil dip stick. It works great and makes more sense to me to preflight the engine from the engine area.
Ok great. Im sure we can find a "good spot" to mount the cable inside the engine compartment too. And thanks to the forum responders for taking a minute to respond. Certainly most appreciated.
